Tim Palmer

Founding Partner

Prior to co-founding Charlesbank in 1998, Tim was a Managing Director of Harvard Private Capital Group, the firm’s predecessor. He joined Harvard Private Capital in 1990. Previously, he invested in and managed a portfolio of private companies at The Field Corporation, based in Chicago. Before that, he was an attorney in Sidley & Austin’s Chicago office, practicing primarily in corporate and public finance, commodities, and mergers and acquisitions.

Personal

Tim is involved as a board member and advisor to executives of several start–up private companies. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of the Affordable Housing Institute, the Boards of Save the Bay (Providence, RI) and GreenLight Fund, Boston, and as Trustee and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the University of Virginia’s Law School Foundation. He and his wife live, sail and cycle in Gulf Stream, FL, and Jamestown, RI, and spend a good deal of time in the winter months skiing in the backcountry in Jackson Hole. They have three children and an ever– enlarging group of grandchildren.
