Founding Partner

Michael served as Charlesbank’s CEO from 1998 to 2017, and Co-Chair from 2017-2022. Prior to co-founding the firm in 1998, he was the president of Harvard Private Capital Group, Charlesbank’s predecessor. He began his tenure at Harvard Management Company in 1986 as Managing Director. Before joining Harvard Management, Michael was with The Boston Consulting Group.

Personal

Michael’s philanthropic involvements have included chairing the Board of Trustees of Williams College, serving as Vice-Chair of the Board of the Berklee College of Music and serving on the Board of The Boston Foundation. He is currently the Chair of the Campaign for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, co-founder and Trustee of Horizons for Homeless Children and Trustee of the Mellen Charitable Foundation. In addition, Michael is on the board of Penske Auto Group, and in 2011, he was recognized by the Outstanding Directors Exchange for his significant boardroom contributions. Michael and his wife live in Boston and enjoy spending summers on Nantucket. They have four grown children and several energetic grandchildren who keep them on their toes and are guaranteed to liven up family vacations.
